GOOD TUNES, HAPPY EARS!

Right, sorry I haven’t posted much apart from competitions recently, but here’s some news on a great bunch of records coming out in August:

After nearly a year of waiting for a follow up to their debut single ‘Harmonize’, during which we’ve been constantly taunted by excellent tracks popping up on their myspace from time to time only to bugger off back into the digital aether from which they came, IPSO FACTO are dropping not one, but TWO excellent new singles on us. The first, ‘Ears & Eyes’ is a limited edition affair and is only available through Pure Groove records in Farringdon on their Germs Of Youth label or onine over t’internet. Produced by Toerag Studios head honcho and White Stripes knob twiddler Liam Watson, it’s a great dusky slice of psychedelia that does a little polka on your brain with its droning keys and marching band beat. Come September and we’ll also be able to enjoy their clearly maths lesson themed release ‘Circle Of Fifths’ / ‘6 & ¾’, out on Mute Irregulars, and produced by John Rivers (who engineered ‘Ghost Town’ by the Specials). These two tunes are both bloody stunning and made a brief myspace appearance a couple of months ago. If you didn’t get to hear them then, trust me, you’ll go bonkers when you do, they’re that good!

On a bit more of a odd-pop tip ESSER releases second single and live favourite ‘Headlock’ on Transgressive. Stupidly catchy and full of Blur-esque bleepy moments, it’s got great lyrics (”bury me in sand like a knackered stallion” anyone?) , is built over some great rumble-funk drumming and will make you grin and dance and feel good. Excellent summer fayre for sunny ears!

Fast rising PiX cover stars KASMs release their debut single proper (after putting out a mini album CD in a tin type thing earlier this year, which the postman LOST for ages, and then my friend BROKE….wankers…) called ‘Taxidermy’ – its a turbo charged, tom tom pounding, screamy, Siouxie’d up goth-punk-metal racket that’s been riding high in my and Hanna’s Durrr charts, and needs to be bought by YOU to put on your record player and played very loud indeed…

OK, and finally, I don’t know if this is actually coming out at all, but head on over to Holy Fuck Remixes and check out their version of ‘Paper Planes’ by M.I.A. One of the best remixes I’ve heard in ages, and well worth a listen…

(N.B – Ipso Facto DJ the club on September 8th, KASMs play the club on October 13th ! )
