OMG!

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

So it’s taken the most part of a year, and in the meantime the band has only gone and split up, but one of my favourite tracks of the year has finally been officially released! ‘Giriama Wedding’ by One More Grain is out on 7″ through Static Caravan records. It’s a double A side with their cover of ‘Scarborough Fair’ and is, by a country mile, the best cover version of a Kenyan Wedding song you will ever hear…..

Check out Fantastic post Grain projects Gyratory System (whose ‘Yowza Yowza Yowza’ will find it’s way into the world via Hansard Records in the new year) and Daniel Patrick Quinn (who is currently working on his new solo album ‘Acting The Rubber Pig’)…

Win! Free entry to see HEARTBREAK this week!

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

Good Morning / Evening / Night,

This week at the club we’ve got a live set from Heartbreak. If you’d like to win free entry for yourself and a pal (and I think you would) then just answer this loosely heatbreak themed doozie of a question correctly, and save yourself some money!

We all know and love classic rock group Queen. However, since the untimely death of Mr. Mercury, the bands legacy has been cruelly shafted by his former cohorts (and Thatcher loving ‘left wing funny man’ Ben Elton) via several cash-in spectaculars, palace top fret wankery, a collaboration with 5ive and a ‘musical’ in which some of the best music of the 20th century can be heard being pummeled into a bloody corporate mess that smells of poo and money. Plus they toured as Queen with a man who wasn’t Freddie Mercury, but was Paul Rogers from Free - a band whose main achievement was that they made that tune which makes people of a certain age think of Wrigleys Spearmint Gum.

HEART BREAKING!

Anyway I was going to ask which of the aforementioned travesties is the most heartbreaking, but then I realized that’s not a question and if it was the answer would be ‘Any / All Of Them’, so any answer would win and that isn’t a competition.

So instead - riddle me this:

Which classic rock act wrote the tune ‘Heartbreaker’?

a) Queen
b) The Rolling Stones
c) Led Zeppelin
d) Thin Lizzy

Answers in an email to chandra@durrr.co.uk with ‘Don’t break my heart, my achy, breaky heart’ in the subject line. The first five correct answers will win. Good Luck!
