Muscles of Joy formed in Glasgow around early 2008, with eight women – their debut LP is a glorious collection of accidental pop, freak-folk, post-punk and avant-garde songs, each with their own magical identity…

Ahead of our party on December 1st, we caught up with Michael David of Los Angeles’s Classixx to talk wedding jams, staying up past bedtime and the divine Karen Carpenter.
Who are your most admired acts in dance music?
We really admire our friends Cosmic Kids. They’ve created a really focused sound for themselves, and are currently working on great new material.
Which producer is really impressing you the most at the moment?
We really enjoy I:Cube/Chateau Flight production, they’ve been at it for many years and have released consistent and imaginative music. Currently, I think Totally Enormous Extinct Dinasours has an excellent sound.
Is there anyone out there you would like to collaborate with/who would be your dream person to work with?
I was thinking the other day that it would be cool to have worked with Karen Carpenter, I think her voice was one of the most brilliant and saddest ever. Also she was an incredible drummer, check out some youtube clips.
You’re due to release your album soon, how do you find working together to create a finished record?
Its very difficult to make a full length Classixx record, there is a lot of existential struggle. Hopefully the finished record will sound fun and effortless, we are having fun with it on the tail end.
What kind of things can we look forward to on the new record?
Lots of variety, and at least 1 or 2 songs that will be fun to play at a wedding.
Being such a strong part of the LA music scene, how does it differ to Europe and what do you most like about coming over here to play shows?
I think when you break it down, scenes are similar everywhere. They tend to be made up of like-minded friends, sharing music and getting meals together. I like how late the clubs stay awake in Europe, but I don’t think I could keep up with it on a permanent basis.
Who is your ‘One To Watch’ in terms of up and coming talent?
I’m always excited to hear what our friends Inc. are putting out. They are an explosive R&B band from LA.
Classixx play DURRR, with Breakbot and a special live performance, on December 1st, click here to buy advance tickets.
